5 top tips for starting to declutter

So, you’re probably here because you’re ready to tackle that clutter, right? Facing a heap of stuff to sort through can feel pretty overwhelming. But trust me, once you’ve got everything neatly organised, you’ll be riding that feel-good wave and loving your rooms or home again.

Decluttering is totally my jam these days. There’s something oddly therapeutic about zoning in and just getting it done. My advice? Set aside a couple of hours, cue up some tunes, and just vibe with it.

This five-step guide breaks down the whole decluttering process, making it easier for you to follow along and get the job done. So, let’s dive in or save this for later—because let’s face it, life gets busy…

HERE’S HOW TO DECLUTTER YOUR HOME IN FIVE SIMPLE STEPS

Let’s give your place that fresh makeover with these easy-to-follow steps.

STEP 1: ENVISION THE END RESULT

I’m big on manifestation. Picture how you want your rooms to look once they’re decluttered and organised. This not only fires up your motivation but also helps you pinpoint what you really want to toss out, making the whole process less stressful.

STEP 2: SORT ITEMS INTO CATEGORIES

Room by room, divide your stuff into three piles: keep, donate and bin. Pro tip: Lay out a blanket or use boxes beforehand to make moving things around easier. When deciding whether to part with something, ask yourself how much you actually use it and if it holds sentimental value. If it’s neither useful nor sentimental, it’s rubbish or donated.

STEP 3: CHECK THE DONATE AND BIN PILES?

Now that you’ve got your bin and donate pile, sift through it. Separate the genuine trash from items that could find a new home. If they’re still in good nick—clean and unbroken—consider passing them on.  It’s way better for the planet than binning. Of course, some things are beyond saving, and that’s okay—bid them goodbye guilt-free.

STEP 4: GET ORGANISED

Stash away loose items neatly. Think cubes for the bedroom, fridge organisers for the kitchen, and racks and containers for the bathroom or get creative in the living room with ottomans and coffee tables that double as secret storage spots.

STEP 5: LABEL THOSE STORAGE CONTAINERS

Labelling your boxes makes finding stuff easier. No more rummaging through cabinets! Plus, it’s handy for keeping things separate. Go for sticker labels or grab a handheld label maker for extra convenience.
